Semantics again!

The small one has an odd turn of phrase sometimes. This evening, while having some difficulty with the toothpaste, he yells from the bathroom, "Can somebody please help me? I'm having a situation!"

Earlier he was walking around with one of these around his waist. He tripped over some miscellaneous object that had been strewn earlier by his less-than-tidy self, and says, "Man, I almost murdered myself there!" The water was running in the kitchen sink, so I didn't hear quite what his brother said, but I thought it included the word "murder" and the name of one of his friends.

I asked, "What did you say?" and he replied with, "Mateo blah blah blah murdered."

Oooo-kay. I turned off the water, and asked him to repeat himself one more time, and he said, "Mateo's grandfather got murdered."

I thought for a moment, and then realized that Mateo's grandfathers were, in fact, all still among the living. My oh-so-inspired response was a loud, "WHAT?!?! I don't think so."

He says, "Yeah. Mateo told me. He got some stuff stolen from him."

Um. Cue the discussion about the differences between murder and burglary/robbery/theft. I suppose it's still technically stealing, but the stakes are higher with murder.
