A Note to the Author

You can thank all the people you want - forensics experts, Sheriff's deputies, nurses - in your prologue. I'm sure they helped you fine tune some of the details that might have been glaring errors otherwise. But how in the world did your editors let it slide when you made the stunning climax of the book hang on something that would never happen nowadays?

Your book was written in 2007, so it's not like HIPAA snuck up on you. It's been around for more than 10 years and has been covered extensively by the media. So I'm sorry, but the following does NOT work as a plot device:

Evil Villain: Hello? Yes, this is Miss Protagonist's "brother." Can you please tell me what room she's in?
Impossible Nurse: Oh, Miss Protagonist just checked out of the hospital a few minutes ago! In fact, she left with her other two brothers, and they were headed home.

Um, yeah. Not going to happen. Surely you can find some other lame but at least plausible plot device to put Our Heroine back in danger.
