Teacher Crush

Okay, I LOVE my son's first grade teacher.

I thought we were off to a good start on Back to School night, but it's just been confirmed repeatedly as the year has gone on. She is very patient with the kids, and you can tell that she's one of the "popular ones" judging by the number of kids who roll down the window to shout, "Mrs. S! Mrs. S.!" from the carpool line as their parents drive them past.

My kid was one of those today, a rare day when we had the car at school. She was on crossing duty, and he just begged me to put the window down so she'd hear him. Actually, both boys were shouting . . . and she called them both by name and gave them a friendly wave.

I remarked to a friend at school that Mrs. S. is a great teacher, and she said, "Yeah. You may only have a few teachers like her in your whole school career. And you're using it up in first grade." Gee, thanks.

Still, when I think back to those couple of teachers I dearly loved in school, I know that Big Kid will remember Mrs. S. forever. I hope Small has that chance in a few years, too!
